Thriving Active Streets: Free Easter Bike Maintenance Helps Young People #PedalMoreIn24
On Saturday 6 April, Bee Pedal Ready in collaboration with GM Bicycle Mayor hosted a Dr Bike Workshop, at Hulme Park for the Active Streets Project led by Manchester Active and Manchester City Council.
Active Streets is an initiative we deliver across neighbourhoods, demonstrating real ‘social value’ in action. A residential street is closed in agreement with residents for a few hours of the day, and a series of activities and games are brought to encourage active play outside during school holiday periods.
As part of the European Capital of Cycling, Bee Pedal Ready and Moston Cycling Club have been delivering ‘Doctor Bike’ bike maintenance sessions for Manchester residents at 8 Active Streets events during the Easter holidays. Local residents from across the city have queued to have their bikes checked and fixed.
It proved to be an amazing day in Hulme, with the team fixing bikes, amongst a giant Easter bunny, young people playing basketball, lots of music, and British Cycling delivering a bike skills showcase.
The event formed part of a wider bike maintenance programme taking place at Active Streets locations across the city during the easter holidays, for free!
The team provided free maintenance to 25 bikes on the day, with many more up and running from the whole of Easter, and providing tips and advice for people to maintain their own bikes.
We’d like to say a massive thanks to the team at Bee Pedal Ready and Moston Cycling Club for their work over the easter break! Their work has ensured even more of our city’s young people can #PedalMoreIn24.
