Riding High – Community Activators Get a Unique Taste of the Velodrome at the National Cycling Centre

Over the past few weeks and months, British Cycling have recently been developing a ‘Community Activator’ training course.

The first pilot course, delivered on 12 November, was attended by a range of volunteers & instructors who deliver cycling activity.

After the training, John Wynch (Community Developer, British Cycling) gave a tour of the National Cycling Centre to the participants.

One of the attendees, Sumayra, was captivated by the velodrome and asked if someone like her could ride it. After a few calls and messages, a session was arranged for Sumayra and a group of women who wouldn’t normally believe they could ride on the track, to have a one hour session coached by John and Craig Ansell.

Both British Cycling and Manchester Active are keen to make this a more regular event, and have already had a number of enquiries from the participants based on their positive experience.
