Tour of Britain Women Comes to Town
Warrington and Greater Manchester have been announced as the hosts of stages three and four, respectively, of the inaugural 2024 Tour of Britain Women.
Taking place from Thursday 6 June to Sunday 9 June 2024, the race will see the world’s top female riders and teams go head-to-head across four tough stages of racing, in what will be the first major international stage race delivered by British Cycling Events.
We’re also thrilled that the route will commence from the National Cycling Centre, our world-famous ‘medal factory’ and home of British Cycling, providing a spectacular backdrop for the start of this stage – a unique opportunity only available when hosting cycling events in Manchester.
It is expected that hundreds of thousands of fans will line the streets to support the race, as the country gears up for another thrilling summer of cycling.

Thriving Active Streets
On Saturday 6 April, Bee Pedal Ready in collaboration with GM Bicycle Mayor hosted a Dr Bike Workshop, at Hulme Park for the Active Streets Project led by Manchester Active and Manchester City Council.
As part of the European Capital of Cycling, Bee Pedal Ready and Moston Cycling Club have been delivering ‘Doctor Bike’ bike maintenance sessions for Manchester residents at 8 Active Streets events during the Easter holidays. Local residents from across the city have queued to have their bikes checked and fixed.
Marina – Manchester Community Bike Mechanic at Moston Cycling Club said – “People loved the free bike maintenance services and advice given. We had a few residents coming to the bike library afterwards for further repairs, support and to learn new skills.” Marina – Manchester Community Bike Mechanic, Moston Cycling Club.
It proved to be an amazing day in Hulme, with the team fixing bikes, amongst a giant Easter bunny, young people playing basketball, lots of music, and British Cycling delivering a bike skills showcase. Learn more about what went on below.
Cycle Training Opportunities
TFGM have re-started their free cycle training sessions at Wythenshawe Park Cycling hub, for people who want to learn to ride or develop their cycling confidence. Sessions also take place at Alexandra Park in Whalley Range and other locations across Greater Manchester. Bikes and helmets provided for free.
TFGM also offer subsidised bike maintenance sessions at a Platt Fields bike hub in Fallowfield; Bikeright! In Cheetham and other locations in Greater Manchester.

Riding High at Platt Fields
During the Easter School Holidays, children enrolled on the Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) enjoyed free BMX sessions at Platt Fields Park BMX track delivered by British Cycling.
Kids from a variety of activity providers commisioned by the city rode the slopes and had an amazing time whilst at it.
More sessions will be delivered during upcoming school holiday periods, ensuring more kids can #PedalMoreIn24

Paris 2024: 100 Days to Go
April marked 100 days to go until the Paris Olympic Games.
To celebrate this milestone, BBC Breakfast were live at the home of British Cycling in the National Cycling Centre to discover the secret to their ongoing Olympic and Paralympic success.
Known as the ‘medal factory’, the National Cycling Centre as hosted, developed and inspired Olympians and winners for decades! And we can’t wait to watch our homegrown stars excel on the biggest stage of them all this summer in Paris.
Better yet, you can have a go on the track too! With weekly sessions for cyclists of all abilities. Click the link below to book a taster session and try it out for yourself.
Inclusive Cycling relaunch at Debdale Park
Inclusive Cycling sessions have re-started in Debdale Park.
Attendees can try a range of adapted cycles in a fun, safe environment with trained staff and volunteers to support you.
Wheels for All is an Inclusive Cycling programme that embraces all children and adults with disabilities and differing needs to engage with quality cycling activity, using adapted cycles such as handcycles, trikes and wheelchair transporter to assist in building confidence and independence in cycling. Sessions take place each Tuesday 11am-3pm.

Cycling UK Launch Inclusive Cycling Experience
Cycling UK’s exciting new programme, the Inclusive Cycling Experience, is funded by the Motability Foundation; it will support disabled communities in Greater Manchester to start cycling.
The scheme offers free try-out sessions and non-standard cycle loans to enable people to consider cycling as an active travel option for everyday journeys.
Manchester Active; GM Bicycle Mayor Belinda Everett and TFGM amongst others joined the launch; trying out the wide range of adapted bikes that will be available to borrow. Try-out sessions will support people to try the bikes in a traffic-free environment and to find a bike to best fit their cycling needs, with support from the Cycling UK team.

Manchester Bike Kitchen Launches
Manchester Bike Kitchen launched it’s latest bike hub in Wythenshawe Civic Centre. The hub will offer a bike library, bike maintenance sessions, volunteering opportunities and an employment support programme. Bikes are for sale at a low cost and bike donations are welcomed.
Tea and Tinker sessions run weekly which attract older people to drop in and find out more. This new development will be a real asset to the cycling offer in the Wythenshawe area. Drop in to find out more every Tuesday 10am-4pm – Wythenshawe Town Centre Civic, Thomas Cook unit on Hale Top.
